Eating Disorders Revealed

Imagine if you will, weighing 95 pounds and being 5’7″ tall with a terrific fear of gaining weight. This is the picture of anorexia nervosa: the relentless pursuit of thinness.

Or take another look as a person stands in front of the refrigerator and literally eats and drinks everything it contains all at once even though they are not physically hungry. Binge eating: compulsive overeating is this scenario.

Now look at the person who diets, becomes hungry, and then binge eats in response to powerful cravings and then purges everything they just ate. This is bulima nervosa: the repeated cycle of out-of-control eating followed by purging.

There are many diseases, disorders, and problem conditions involving food, weight and eating, but in everyday conversations, the term “eating disorders” has come to mean anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.

The intended purpose of this blog on eating disorders is to be a beacon of HOPE to families and individuals suffering from these serious, life threatening disorders.  Please check back often for insight and information on eating disorders.
